Chpater 8 - Team - Based Organization

In Chapter 8 there is discussion about team-based organization. This is where members have their own individual responsibilities, but they are also apart of a group. This is an important concept because this is becoming a very common concept in organizations these days. Team work is just as important as working independently and employees need to know how to do both in order to be successful in an organization. These team-based organizations serve around interdependent decision making as a means to improve work processes, better quality and service to customers... which is basically done by the employee individually. So, be better able to work independently, need to be able to work as a team to find better functional ways to work.

This is true. Teams of people can learn from each other as well as praise each other. This way everyone is appreciated and respected. The decision-making makes everyone feel involved, giving power to even to line employees of a factory.

I also found the section on team-based organizations very interesting. Team based organizations provide several positive features which the text mentions such as a willingness to take risk. Since the team feel safer as a group, they are more likely to think outside the box and pursue more innovative options. Also a by working as team there may be a cross-section of experts that brings a diverse set of opinions on any give project. However, I found that the simplest explanation as to why team work may be better for certain projects is by looking at the old concept of “wisdom of the Crowd” in line with the old adage “two heads are better than one.” With more people focusing on one task the group is bound to more easily find an solution than putting it all on one individual.
